Hello to all. We listed some of essential terms for studying car design. Car Design Academy recommends memorizing or understanding at least these. They are described with some illustrations for making the meaning clearly understandable. We are going to give you those terms and definitions in 6 parts! It is also helping beginners to learn! Key Structures and Items- A-Pillars, B-Pillars, C-Pillars A structural member that connects the roof to the body of the car. Pillars are usually notated from front to back alphabetically (e.g. A-pillar joins the windshield to the front most side windows, B-pillar is next to the front occupants’ heads, etc.). - X-Axis, Y-Axis, Z-Axis Using mathematic words make you feel difficult, but it is not. X-Axis is car width, Y-Axis is car length, and Z-Axis is car height. - Wheel Base The distance front to back measured from where the front and rear wheels meet the ground. For passenger cars, longer the wheel base, the more comfortable riding comfort. - Front Overhang Front tip of Body to Front Tire Center. - Rear Overhang Rear End of Body to Rear Tire Center. - Hood (Bonnet) Hood is the panel to cover the Engine Room, it is also called Bonnet. - Grill Grill is the front face of the car where intake the outside air to Engine Room. - Roof Roof is the top area to cover the Cabin - Cowl Point Cowl Line is the base of Front Windshield, and Cowl Point is the center of the Cowl Line, which is closest point on the Hood to the front edge of vehicle. - Relief Relief is the raised ornament of Hood. - Body Body is below Belt Line of car structure except Tire& Wheels. - Cabin Cabin is a above Belt Line of car structure surrounded by windows.
